The Afflovest is the first battery-operated High Frequency Chest Wall Oscillation (HFCWO). HFCWO allows patients to remain fully mobile while receiving effective airway clearance therapy. The Afflovest helps patients with conditions such as COPD, bronchiectasis, and cystic fibrosis. When starting with the Afflovest, you may have many questions about how it works. In today’s blog, we will share a few helpful tips on using the Afflovest!

1. Adjust the Fit of Your Afflovest

  • The first step when using your Afflovest is to adjust the fit to ensure that it fits comfortably and works efficiently. Your Afflovest should have a snug fit but shouldn’t be too tight. You can begin by snapping in the shoulder straps. Sitting down in a chair while doing this step may be helpful. Then, adjust the front snaps after you buckle them by simply pulling on the strap with the opposite hand.

2. Turning On Your Afflovest

  • Once you have adjusted the fit of your Afflovest and everything is snug and comfortable, it is time to turn on your device! You will need to use the digital controller to operate the Afflovest. The power button is located on the top right side of the controller. To power the Afflovest, hold down the power button for three to five seconds until the remote lights up. Your digital controller will display a startup menu. That is when you know you have successfully turned on your Afflovest, which is now ready to use.

3. Select a Therapy Mode

  • Once your Afflovest is powered on and ready to use, you will need to select a therapy mode. There are three modes that you can choose from; percussion (P), vibration (V), and drainage (D). To choose a mode, simply press the corresponding button (P, V, or D), and the Afflovest will switch to that mode. By looking at the display, you can tell which mode the Afflovest is set to, and the current selected mode will be highlighted. After you have selected the desired mode, you can press the play button to begin your therapy.

4. Select an Intensity

  • With the Afflovest, you can easily change the intensity manually by pressing the intensity buttons. There are three intensity options to choose from; low (five pulses per second), medium (13 pulses per second), and high (20 pulses per second). You can switch the intensity at any time, even while the Afflovest is running. The selected intensity will be highlighted on the display, similar to the mode selection process. After you are finished with your therapy, you can power off the Afflovest by pressing the power button for three to five seconds. The display will shut off when the Afflovest has been successfully powered off.

5. Charging and Cleaning Your Afflovest

  • Regularly cleaning and charging your Afflovest is an important part of using your Afflovest device! You can use a cleaning wipe to clean your afflovest effectively. Remember never to submerge the vest in any liquid. It is also recommended that you charge your Afflovest every day or every other day to ensure that your vest is always ready to go. It is important to allow the Afflovest to fully charge before first use. All five LED bars will be lit when the battery is fully charged. A fully charged battery will last two hours on the highest setting.
